Another lap around the sun, another dollar. That’s how it feels at times. COVID, price rises – when does anyone have time to look after our selves? Our bodies? New Years Resolutions get broken all the time, but it’s important to put the effort in. Let’s put a bit of extra special effort in for 2023.

Happy New Years Resolutions for 2023.

I hereby resolve to…

1. Eat a healthy diet

Eat more fruits and vegetables, reduce your intake of processed foods, or try out a better dietary pattern (such as vegetarianism or veganism). If not that, just cut back on eating meat. Eat meat every 2nd day instead of always and red meat only once or twice per week.

Your gut will fall in love with you.

2. Exercise regularly

Making a commitment to get regular exercise will help you improve your physical health and mental well-being. Join a gym, take up a new sport or activity, or commit to a daily walk or run.

3. Get enough sleep

Adequate sleep is one of the doable new years resolutions. It’s essential for good physical and mental health. Consider setting a goal to get a certain number of hours of sleep each night or creating a bedtime routine to help you fall asleep more easily.

4. Reduce stress

Chronic stress can have negative effects on your health and well-being. Consider ways to reduce stress in your life, such as through mindfulness practices, exercise, meditation (here are our prices).

Set boundaries with your work and social obligations.

5. Quit smoking / reduce alcohol consumption

If you smoke or drink, consider making a resolution to quit or reduce your consumption in the new year. No real need to explain this one.

6. Visit Your Doctor

Make a commitment to prioritize your health by scheduling regular check-ups and screenings with your GP. This can help you stay up-to-date on any necessary vaccinations and detect any potential health issues early on.

7. Practice self-care

Remember to prioritize your own physical and mental well-being by setting aside time for self-care activities, such as taking a warm bath, getting a massage, or simply taking a few minutes each day to relax and unwind.

I’ll add another one – the least narcissistic of my new years resolutions . . .

Give to Others

Of course, we’d love you to invest in your staff a little by allowing a little self-care time with a weekly, fortnightly or monthly massage (here are our prices) but there are many benefits to giving to others, both for the recipient and the giver.

Some of the benefits include:

  1. Increased happiness: Giving to others can increase happiness and feelings of well-being. This may be because it activates the brain’s reward centers and releases feel-good chemicals like oxytocin and serotonin.
  2. Improved physical health: Research has shown that people who engage in acts of kindness and generosity may have lower blood pressure, a stronger immune system, and a longer lifespan.
  3. Enhanced social connections: Giving to others can help strengthen social connections and build a sense of community. This can be especially important for those who may be isolated or lonely.
  4. Increased sense of purpose and meaning: Giving to others can provide a sense of purpose and meaning in life. It can also help people feel more connected to something larger than themselves, which can be fulfilling and rewarding.
  5. Greater sense of accomplishment: Giving to others can help people feel more accomplished and fulfilled. It can also boost self-esteem and confidence.

Overall, giving to others will have a very positive impact. We’re social animals that are designed to help each other (what do you think those opposable thumbs are for?).

Helping others contributes to a sense of well-being and happiness, as well as strengthen social connections and provide a sense of purpose and meaning in life.

And in the workplace, there is some research to say that a regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly massage increases staff productivity.

(I couldn’t find the white paper on that last one but it feels true) 😉
